Leu Art Center - Sacred Space

What is a sacred space to me?

A retreat from typical life that encourages reflection of significant topics while promoting community building activities.

The purpose of this space is to encourage both communal and individual inspiration and work. It will be a place for the art students of Watkins as well as the design students of O’more to have a retreat from class life and focus on nature, community, and what truly inspires them. I included an amphitheater in the space that has a ripple effect throughout the space, drawing the users to the center, encouraging conversation and community as well as bringing focus to the center where presentations can take place. There are also spaces for eating, inspiring community, and spaces for individual work and inspiration. As an extra measure to promote artistic inspiration and community I intend for there to be a mural on the added brick walls as well as spaces for student’s sculptures to be displayed. The immersion of nature and promotion of community should inspire the users/students of this space to collaborate and have an opportunity to consider unique topics they wouldn’t usually have the chance to explore.
